We are unable to guarantee the functionality of the backup power solutions implemented by the networks (Eg. Fibre, ADSL or LTE providers). Most providers undertake to ensure that their networks are able to withstand power outages, and, in our experience, this is generally the case. Please check with your provider directly if you are uncertain about their ability to keep the connection live during outages.
We strongly recommend making use of our optional installation service to ensure a professional and easy installation without the risk of damaging your network equipment. We also include all dongles and extender cables as needed in the cost of installation.
See FAQs for additional information or get in touch with any questions.
We have a 14 Day money back guarantee on all of our router UPS devices for any reason. We will arrange for collection of the device and a full refund. Please get in contact with us as soon as possible if you would like to arrange this.
The installations are currently only applicable in the greater JHB area. A technician delivers the device and gets everything connected. The technician will also be able to assess for compatibility and advise on any other network or WiFi queries you may have. The installation includes any extension cables or adapters that may be required.
We have been providing a variety of router power solutions over the last few years and have learned that in many instances they are not plug and play solutions. Incorrect polarity and voltage can destroy routers. Many routers use non-standard plug fittings or may have non-supported power requirements. We are able to leverage this experience and add value by ensuring a safe and professional installation and can assist with the required adapters, cables, extensions or connectors to ensure a fully working solution.
Yes you can. We deliver nationwide, but strongly suggest a professional installation.
The Router UPS supports most standard WiFi routers. If you are concerned as to whether or not your router is supported, you are more than welcome to get in touch with us. If you find that the Router UPS doesn’t work with your router/CPE we will happily arrange a full refund and collection of the device. We are also willing to customise a solution for you, at no additional charge, in the event that your router requires a different size plug.
This is completely dependent on the devices you connect. In our experience, standard installations can easily achieve as much as 8 hours. The more advanced your networking equipment, the more power it is likely to draw and therefore the faster the batteries will drain. We offer a 14 day money back guarantee, so please feel free to test the uptime in your specific set up to ensure that you are happy with the performance.
The Router UPS supports most standard ADSL routers. For the solution to work, your ADSL line will have to make use of backup power at the exchange. This is usually the case, but we are unable to guarantee power on ADSL lines during power cuts or load shedding as it is completely out of our control.
The Router UPS supports most standard LTE routers. For the solution to work, your nearest cellular towers will need to have backup power in place. This seems to be quite unpredictable between different providers and areas and is something we are unable to guarantee as it is completely out of our control. We suggest checking with a phone or tablet to ensure that good signal remains during load shedding before purchasing a Router UPS.
This version of the router UPS will power on most WiFi access points provided that they accept DC power in and that they are positioned close to the router UPS. If you have an access point that requires POE (power over ethernet) please advise us and we can arrange a router UPS that supports POE (15, 19 and 24V options only). Please contact us with your specific info and we will gladly advise on the best set up to meet your needs.
The cables included with the Router UPS are just over 1m in length. In the event that the routers are not very close to each other, you would need to purchase an additional Router UPS to support both devices. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us.
The Router UPS uses the industry standard 2.1mm plug. We keep a number of non-standard adapters and cables in stock and can also assist with more nice requirements in many cases to build a customised solution. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
The Router UPS is designed to be very energy efficient and only draws power when the battery needs charge. The devices should have little to no impact on energy consumption.
No, the batteries cannot be replaced. The Router UPS uses much more advanced battery technology (Li-Ion) than our previous internet power unit products. These batteries have a much longer shelf life and cope with the pressures of Eskom significantly better than the previous iterations.
In general, the answer to this is no. The Router UPS is a very niche device aimed at solving a very specific problem. There are some exceptions to this, such as adding additional, low power devices, like a desktop switch – which can be discussed with us in advance. The Router UPS will NOT power computers, cellphones, TVs, etc. For these you would be better off looking at an inverter solution.
This version of the UPS allows for two different output voltages to be selected, so this would not be a problem at all so long as both devices use a supported voltage.
Most fibre companies and ISPs promise backup power during load shedding, and in most cases we have found this to be true. We have received reports of some areas where this isn’t always the case, so we recommend checking with your ISP and fibre provider before purchasing an Router UPS. We are unable to guarantee power from the fibre providers themselves as this completely out of our control.
The Router UPS is an inline device, meaning that it remains plugged into both the wall socket as well as your routers at the same time. The battery kicks in automatically, with no drop in power to the connected devices, and the battery charges up again as soon as power is restored. There is no user intervention required at all.
